Caring for Species at Risk Workshops
March 6th and 20th, Vineland and Simcoe
Following the success of the Caring for Nature factsheet series and two Caring for Nature Workshops, held in Essex and Norfolk in 2009, Carolinian Canada will be offering two Caring for Species at Risk Workshops for rural landowners this winter.

These workshops will introduce participants to species at risk in their region and the importance of private landowners practicing good stewardship practices to provide habitat for species at risk on their property. Representatives from local stewardship councils, conservation authorities, naturalist clubs, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Carolinian Canada will be on hand to provide advice on how to manage woodlots, wetlands and grasslands to provide habitat for species at risk and other wildlife. The concepts of Rural Lanowner Stewardship Plans and Conservation Action Plans will also be introduced. For more information, contact workshop coordinator Bernie Solymar at solymar@nornet.on.ca or 519-426-7124 (1-866-498-1784).

Even rain could not dampen spirits at the 2009 Species at Risk Camp. On July 22 -23, Over 30 Stewardship Rangers from across the region took part in a crash course on what makes Carolinian Canada unique. Teens tasted local flavours, met rare raptors, handled snakes and put on skits. They even braved Spooky Hollow woods to remove invasive species. The camp gave the young stewards a range of unforgettable experiences. To learn more about SAR camp 2009, click here. Assistance for this project was provided by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Parks Canada and TD Friends of the Environment. Read about the SAR camp 2008 here.
